    Years ago when I taught general biology at a university in Virginia, I had my students learn to use a dissecting microscope through an exercise with insects in which they had to make observations at different magnifications.

    Many of the women said they thought butterflies were so beautiful until I had them examine them with a dissecting microscope.

    I find the details, as shown here, also beautiful and quite intriguing.

    I guess I lost a few with that exercise.
