Dorylus - Driver Ants

Dorylus is an African and Asian genus of predatory nomadic antsThe surface-foraging species conduct spectacular raids and are often refered to as driver or safari ants.  Other species, such as D. helvolus pictured below, exhibit the specialized subterranean predation that is typical of most other army ants. Males are elongate insects commonly seen at lights whose unique shape has earned them the name sausage flies.
