Lasius
Lasius are commonly encountered ants in a wide variety of habitats
in the north temperate zone in both the old and the new world. Some
species are social parasites, and many are subterranean. Ants in
the endemic North American subgenus Acanthomyops are temporary social
parasites of other Lasius species and produce a strong citronella
odor when disturbed.
