Nothomyrmecia macrops - Dinosaur Ant
South Australia

photograph © Alex Wild 2005

The foraging habits of Nothomyrmecia are unusual.  Although these ants nest in soil, they forage in trees only on cold nights.  It is thought that they catch insects immobilized by the cold.
