Camponotus nigriceps - sugar ant
Victoria, Australia

photograph © Alex Wild 2005

Ants in the Australian Camponotus nigriceps species-group are readily identified by the protruding shape of the anterior clypeal margin.  In less technical terms, the shape of the front of the head of this ant helps to identify the species.
