Paratrechina longicornis - Crazy Ant
Panamá

photograph © Alex Wild 2007

Crazy ants (Paratrechina longicornis) are somewhat opportunistic feeders, getting nutrition from a wide array of food sources.  Here a worker feeds from sap oozing from a plant wound.  Such generalist habits may help explain why these ants thrive all over the world.
