Formica

Formica ants are ubiquitous in the temperate regions of the northern hemisphere. These moderately large, alert ants are variable in behavior and ecology.  The genus includes some slave-raiders as well as several less extreme forms of social parasitism.

Formica are informally classified in 'species groups'.  Due to the large quantity of photographs of this diverse genus on myrmecos.net, I have split up the gallery by species group.

exsecta group fusca group
microgyna group neogagates group
pallidefulva group rufa group
sanguinea group
