Nearctic Camponotus
Camponotus is among the most abundant and widespread ant genera worldwide. Members of this ecologically diverse group are found in nearly every terrestrial habitat. In North America they are best known for pest species like the Eastern Carpenter Ant C. pennsylvanicus, but most species are of little direct economic importance and play important roles as scavengers and cyclers of soil.
Due to the tremendous diversity of Camponotus, I have broken up the image gallery into the somewhat artificial categories of subgenera.
