Satellite photograph of the area surrounding the small town of Poochera, South Australia, the rediscovery site of the living fossil ant Nothomyrmecia.  Grazing and conversion of land into agriculture threaten the old-growth mallee scrub that Nothomyrmecia requires for survival.  The actual site of the 1977 rediscovery of the ant has already been destroyed, although the Poochera area still hosts several other populations and additional populations have been discovered elsewhere in South Australia.
