Tenuirostritermes tenuirostris - Nasute termite
Termitidae
Arizona, USA

photograph © Alex Wild 2005

The only native nasute termites in the United States are in the genus Tenuirostritermes, found in the Southwest.  The long snout on this soldier termite is used to project a sticky defensive secretion.  The larger worker termites (background) do not have the snout.
