Leptanilloides

Leptanilloides are small, rarely-encountered subterranean ants of wet Neotropical montane forests.  These enigmatic insects are similar in morphology to army ants, but little is known about their behavior.  The images below are probably the only photographs ever taken of living Leptanilloides.
