Formica microgyna group

Formica microgyna group ants are temporary nest-founding parasites closely related to ants of the Formica rufa group. Queens are something of a morphological oddity- they are smaller than many of the workers, a trait thought to be related to their parasitic life cycle.  Little is known about these ants.
