Cyphomyrmex costatus
Central America

photograph © Alex Wild 2007

Few Cyphomyrmex species are as decorated with sleek little ridges as the Central American C. costatus.  The function of the ridges is unknown, but might help to increase the rigitidy of the ants' integument.

Collected in Panama; Laboratory colony at the University of Texas.
