Myrmica americana
Gannett Hill, Ontario Co., New York, USA

Identification of Myrmica species can be difficult, as Myrmica has a great many species in the north temperate zone that are morphologically similar.  However, the configuration of the antennal scape at the base is often diagnostic; here M. americana displays its characteristic upturned flange.
