Meranoplus (shield ants) Meranoplus is a large, diverse genus of distinctive-looking myrmicine ants found from Africa, Madagascar and southern Asia to Indonesia and Australia. These soil-nesting ants are commonly found in open habitats. Some species, such as M. unicolor pictured below, are seed-harvesters.
