Sphinctomyrmex

Ants in the genus Sphinctomyrmex are specialist predators of other ant species.  They have small colonies and subterranean habits, and are not commonly encountered. Sphinctomyrmex are found in tropical regions worldwide, but are most diverse in Australia.
