Neotropical Camponotus
Camponotus is among the most abundant and widespread ant genera worldwide. Members of this ecologically diverse group are found in nearly every terrestrial habitat in South America, from rainforests to deserts and alpine grasslands. Many species nest in wood, but some are soil-nesters and the group contains some weaver ants.
Due to the tremendous diversity of Camponotus, I have broken up the image gallery into the somewhat artificial categories of subgenera.
